INFORMATION
Welcome to the information section of our website. Despite what may
appear to be quite a bit or reading, we must insist that you
completely read and understand everything herein expressed.
Thank you.
DISCLAIMER
The Southern California Hummer Owner Group is merely an affiliation of
Hummer owners. We are brought together with the common interest of
enjoying our Hummers and exploring the outdoors. We do not carry any
form of liability insurance, towing service, trail support (mechanics,
technicians, etc) or represent any form of professional driving
instruction. The events organized are typically pre-run to promote a
safe and determined path through an area, but you follow and join us
entirely at your own risk.
Any time you leave the pavement you depart from an engineered road and
conditions of designed safety. Loose terrain, extreme variations in
surfaces and other factors can lead to personal and vehicle damage.
You are entirely responsible for using your own judgment and
exercising caution when off-roading.
On the side or reality....nobody wants to get hurt and few are
interested in damaging their vehicles. We strive to take routes that
have been pre-run and select trails which offer safe "by-passes" or
"round-abouts" so that the more challenging obstacles can entirely be
avoided. We look for trails that all levels of driver experience can
enjoy. Many of our members have significant experience and our prime
interest is in making sure everyone has a fun time without harm or
damage to either people and vehicle.
You will be asked to sign a liability release waiver before joining us
on any trail or event. AND while naked pictures of hot celebrities are
entertaining, they will not (again) be accepted in lieu of signing the
release waivers!
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Common sense dictates that spare tires, water, first-aid and other
such supplies be brought. All this aside...most the recovery equipment
is carried by many of the group...about the only thing that really
really really helps is having a CITIZENS BAND RADIO.
The CB radio is our primary means of communication while on the trail.
The FRS radio's are often brought, but their limited range have held
them from being our primary means of communication. The hierarchy of
communication is as follows:
CB radio
|
Very effective, best range
|
FRS radio
|
Moderately effective, limited range
|
cell phones
|
Rarely effective due to coverage
|
screaming out of the
window
|
Limited range, especially with diesels
|
Morse-Code using the
horn
|
Few understand it, too slow
|
tin cans tied together with string
|
perhaps better then cell phones?
|
hand gestures
|
can get you shot in the inner-city
|
Please invest in a CB radio, without it you will miss out on LOTS of
fun as well as valuable information that can seriously be useful.
Running a trail without a CB is like watching television with no
volume....tune in and be part of the fun. We have simple & cheap
designs for radios that just slip in between the seat and center
console, then it plugs in to the cigarette lighter and a magnetic
antenna goes up top....no drilling holes of elaborate installs.
EVENTS
Events are usually scheduled with 2-3 weeks of notice, often
polls are taken to see which dates work best in order to optimize
turn-out. We travel all over the Southern California area and have an
affiliation with a Northern group as well. Additionally, members are
encouraged to post their own excursions and invite other members to
join them. As a rule...if you're headed out to off-road, post a thread
and invite a buddy: safety in numbers!
The greatest service you can bring to the club is to help us find,
organize and run events. If you know of any trails...please bring us
your experience....this is YOUR club too!!! We are family oriented and
encourage you to bring your spouses, kids and even dogs.
WHO CAN JOIN
Let's face it...Hummer owners are often thought to be elitist,
snobby and stuffy. NOT with this group. We are open to all enthusiast
who seek to enjoy the great outdoors and share a common interest in
exploring the unpaved world that elusively lies just beyond the
boundary that separates us from....what was I saying??? Oh yeah...we
like Hummers and off-roading.
Anyone and any vehicle can join us....provided they clear it with the
event coordinator and ample room is available. We don't play
"brand/model" ego games....we all come together in the spirit of
enjoying the trail and helping everyone get through unscathed.
While the host-website is H2 oriented, this club is open to ALL models
of Hummers. This is a HUMMER club, not an H2, H1 or anything-else
club.
At events, there may seem to be a cohesive crowd...but more often half
the people are new. Please push the limits of your extroverted nature
and introduce yourself around....it'll likely pay-off when initiation
time rolls around! But seriously, this is a great bunch of people and
we have a great time....get involved!
WEBSITE
This swell website has been donated to us and is maintained by
his lordship Jason Rosoff...he runs the Elcova website and has brought
a valuable tool to the Hummer community. Our website is completely
invisible to the outside world....unless you have the web address, you
can't find it. Our membership directory and calendar is private and
you should post your email address without concern for solicitation.
Our discussion forum is slightly open to the regular Elcova
forum....but it's well tucked away.
Take the time to explore the vast features of our website....it's
packed with all sorts of great things. You DO NOT have to join the "H2
Club" either. You'll want to register in the forums, in order
to post to threads and be counted. Also, be sure to fill-out your
profile and include a picture of your rig
.HISTORY
The Southern California Hummer Owner Group was founded in mid 2002 by
Steve Reisman (that's me). In a very short time we've grown to just
over 160 members and have captured the attention of the entire Hummer
community with our pictures, video's and media coverage by national
news networks.
